My Game of the Year 2021- NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…

NieR Replicant is set in a desolate and broken recycled world built upon the lies of the previous generations. The sky is overcast constantly and whilst some of the locations are visually stunning there is a constant melancholy feeling lurking in its wake. The story is just as pessimistic. The main character is on a quest to save his dying younger sister from a disease. A mysterious black scrawl has started manifesting itself under her skin. No one has ever survived this disease before and there is not much information recorded about it. As this is happening the monsters of the world, The Shades, are growing more violent and the main character is working as a mercenary to help them get by.   Of course, in typical Yoko Taro fashion, there is a hell of a lot going on behind the scenes. There are practically two plots happening simultaneously, but for someone as dramatic and over the top as him, I was surprised by how basic and easy to follow the main plot is. Previously NieR was released

Deathloop Review

Like Groundhog Day but with more guns Stuck in a time loop, Colt finds himself starting every day waking up, hungover on a beach with no memory of how he managed to get there. After some exploration and finding messages, he seemingly left himself, he finds out he can escape by assassinating the 8 Visionaries who rule the island of Black Reef in one day. So, his journey of violence and discovery begins! In Deathloop when you die, you restart at the beginning of the day. You do automatically have a power that rewinds time three times after a death preventing small mistakes from being overly punishing. But if you make too many- tough luck, you need to replay the loop again.  Deathloop is at its heart an immersive sim in the same vein as games like Hitman and in particular Arkane Studio’s previous outings with the Dishonored series. This genre is best replayed to experience different solutions to missions. The clever part of the time loop design is no longer is exploring levels somet

The Week in Gaming for 29th October 2021

Nintendo Switch Online- Expansion Pass 64 Emulator Has Problems Nintendo has faced criticism after the new Expansion Pass tier has not met fans expectations. The issues being reported are as followed: 1.        Inability to button map The N64 Switch app maps 'a' and 'b' to the same buttons on the Joycons however, their positions are reversed when compared to the Nintendo 64 controller. Additionally, the C buttons have been mapped to the right stick and the Z button is only on the ZL Button. 2.        Issues rendering fog Many Nintendo 64 games use fog to hide draw distance and build atmosphere. Ocarina of Time in particular seems to struggle when emulating fog. In particular, a tweet by StopSkeletons  shows the room in the Water Temple where Dark Link is fought and the emulator struggles to render both the fog and water. 3.         Latency Issues Some players are reporting slow input times using the N64 app. A few YouTubers have done tests to verify th

The Week in Gaming for The 1st October 2021

64BitWorld’s The Week in Gaming for 25 th September- 1 st October 2021 Howdy folks, today is Friday so starting from today I will start a new weekly article series discussing all the latest and greatest gaming news from the past week. Nintendo UK invites press to play Metroid Dread on a Switch OLED Metroid Dread Many outlets have been able to record previews and reactions to both Metroid Dread and the new Switch OLED Model, both launching on Friday 8 th October 2021. 2D Metroid has always been a very core Nintendo series. It never sold as well as Nintendo’s other franchises, but its fanbase is extremely passionate. By launching it on the same day as the Switch OLED, it seems that Nintendo is trying to entice this core audience into picking up the new console as well as a long-anticipated sequel. Reactions have been great with Nintendo Life’s Alex Olney described the movement in Metroid as having “fluidity and grace that we’ve never seen before”. AndyRobinson from VGC

WarioWare: Get It Together! Review

Fancy seeing Wario here! The new entry in Nintendo’s WarioWare series sees the gang back for more hijinks. This time, as the title implies, the focus is on making the chaotic microgames more fun in multiplayer.      For those uninitiated with WarioWare, the gameplay consists of playing a selection of short 5 second microgames. Each microgame starts with a phrase appearing on the screen and you must figure out what is happening, and how to come up with a solution as quickly as possible. As you get later in the stage the microgames become faster and the objectives more difficult which adds to the fun. The microgames are hectic, bizarre, and really fun. You’ll be completing simple objectives like picking a nose and helping a dog drink its water.      The new Microgames are really funny and some of the unexpected outcomes put a smile on my face. Protecting flower buds from a meteor causes them to sprout in the cutest way imaginable but having a boy drop his ice cream causes the happy ar

Final Fantasy VII Remake Episode INTERmission

The Feisty Ninja receives in this new PS5 expansion! Episode INTERgrade which is included in the PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, features Yuffie, the loveable ninja from Wutai. It is included as a download code for copies of the PS5 version, but people who bought the game on PS4 can pay £15.99 to access this new content. It includes two new side chapters which provide an alternative perspective of the events of the main game. Yuffie was an optional character in the original Final Fantasy VII and her original presentation was hit and miss. Some fans love her, but her obsession for materia and an irritating side mission late in that game caused her to be a marmite character. Thankfully, like every other main character in Final Fantasy VII Remake, a great deal of time and effort has gone into bringing the chunky PS1 character to life on PS5. Her voice acting is superb, her writing is witty and charming, and she is more fleshed out than it ever was on the original PlayStati

Overboard! Review

You’re aboard a ship in the 1930s emigrating from Britain to the United States. Your husband has a gambling problem, is supporting the fascists in Germany and is having an affair with a younger woman. How can you get rid of him to start a brand-new life in the New World? Veronica Villensey decides to push him, as the title suggests, Overboard! Other murder mysteries task you with figuring out whodunnit, but Overboard! flips this idea on its head. How do you get away with murder? Playing the role of Veronica as she covers up her matricide is unique and fun. The game plays as a visual novel. You explore the ship, speak to other passengers to gain information. Veronica is the villain of the tale and everyone on board has a secret to hide. The old lady; she’s a gossip, the self-obsessed younger woman, the kind gentleman, secretly a pervert.  Characters may know key incriminating evidence relating to the murder, so it’s important to discover their flaws and how to manipulate them to your

Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition Review

Horizon Zero Dawn feels like it was conceptualised by a group of kindergarten children during playtime. ‘ROAR’ shouted Lambert standing on the table, “I am a giant robot T-Rex and I am going to fire my laser cannons at you!” Horizon Zero Dawn is set in a post-apocalyptic world hunting robotic dinosaurs. It’s stupid but that is what makes it superb. I have never played anything like it, but I wish it embraced its outlandish concept and had a less serious tone.  Guerrilla Games most recent PlayStation exclusive features protagonist Aloy- a social outcast in a native American/Celtic inspired world. There is an alluring mystery on how these robot dinosaurs came to be and how they have conquered their environment. It plays like typical open world game with an emphasis on defeating these magnificent beasts.   After a few hours, the world map becomes full with an onslaught of objectives to complete. You have the typical bandit camps, where you can defeat human enemies through stealth or

SCARLET NEXUS Preview

An intriguing new ‘brain punk’ world with satisfying psychokinetic combat, SCARLET NEXUS is a new anime IP by Bandai Namco launching on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, PS4 and PS5. Producer Keita Iizuke has coined the term ‘brain punk’ to describe the game’s world stating he is intrigued by what would happen if society developed the human brain . Prior to the game’s launch the Japanese publisher has launched a free demo on digital store fronts.   When the demo starts you are presented with the choice of playing between the male protagonist Yuito Sumeragi or the female protagonist Kasane Randall. Both are members of an organisation called OSF, tasked with defeating ‘The Others’, an invading alien race. Each protagonist has different party members which grant them access to different abilities to use in combat. The locations are vastly different depending on which character you choose, with Yuito fighting through neon-lit city streets and Kasane fighting through an abandoned constructio
