64BitWorld’s The Week in Gaming for 25th September- 1st October 2021
Howdy folks, today is Friday so starting from today I will
start a new weekly article series discussing all the latest and greatest gaming
news from the past week.
Nintendo UK invites press to play Metroid Dread on a Switch OLED
Metroid Dread |
Many outlets have been able to record
previews and reactions to both Metroid Dread and the new Switch OLED Model,
both launching on Friday 8th October 2021.
2D Metroid has always been a very core Nintendo series. It
never sold as well as Nintendo’s other franchises, but its fanbase is extremely
passionate. By launching it on the same day as the Switch OLED, it seems that
Nintendo is trying to entice this core audience into picking up the new console
as well as a long-anticipated sequel.
Reactions have been great with Nintendo Life’s Alex Olney
described the movement in Metroid as having “fluidity and grace that we’ve
never seen before”. AndyRobinson from VGC described the OLED as being a “striking upgrade on the
original switch” and “for portable players, it’s a big upgrade”.
From a look at the pre-release material, Metroid Dread
seems to have a bold mix of primary colours scattered into the dark
environments- which will surely pop on a sleek OLED screen.
It is sounding like Metroid fans have a lot to look forward
to next week.
Bloomberg reports that 11 Developers have 4K Switch Development kits
The New Nintendo Switch OLED Model |
The 11 developers, including Zynga, have reportedly been
told been asked by Nintendo to ‘Design software to support the higher
resolution.’
Bloomberg has also stated that they don’t expect a new
system to release until late next year and said Nintendo may decide to not release the hardware at all.
Nintendo has stated that Bloomberg’s reports are ‘inaccurate’.
This is unsurprising, and previously Nintendo has declined rumours about new
hardware, then proceeded to reveal said hardware in the same week. Nintendo also has the new Switch OLED model due out next
week, so would not want to reveal competing hardware ahead of the release of this variant.
What strikes me about these rumours is Bloomberg’s responsibility
with the OLED model. Bloomberg in March reported that Nintendo was developing a
Switch Pro and managed to accurately detail many of the features of the yet-to-be-announced Switch OLED model. The only details they got incorrect was a dock
capable of outputting in 4K and when it would be revealed. They clearly have some
accurate sources.
I would speculate that potentially the Switch OLED was due
to have a 4K dock and maybe this feature was held back for this potential
console revision, or perhaps, the next generation of Switch.
Some fans are clearly desperate to play their Switch games
at 4K and until Nintendo quenches their massive thirst, I fear these rumours
will continue floating around.
PlayStation 5 has sold 1 million units in the UK
According to gameindustry.biz
and using stats provided by GfK, PlayStation 5 has sold 1 million units in the
UK as of August.
It took the PS5 39 weeks to reach this feat, and by doing
so, it managed to break the record for the fastest console to sell a million in
the region. The previous record was held by the PS4 which took 42 weeks to sell
a cool mil.
Globally, the system has surpassed 10 million sales as of
July 18th.
Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy rated on Korean age classification database
The yet to be announced collection was reported by Kotaku last month and is set to include the PS2 era titles including GTA
III, Vice City and San Andreas.
The collection appeared on the South Korean Game Rating and
Administration Committee database, which is responsible for age rating in the
country.
According to the rumours, the collection would be released on
PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, PC and mobile.
Some have speculated that the project may have been delayed
until 2022 but Kotaku has heard from their sources that the trilogy is
currently due for a November release.
Rockstar Games is yet to acknowledge or announce the
project. It is rumoured to be in development at Rockstar Dundee.
Capcom and Oculus reveal new footage for Resident Evil 4’s VR version
Capcom’s beloved horror title Resident Evil 4 is
receiving a new VR version and is set for release on Thursday 21st
October. The VR edition is being developed by Armature and is exclusive to the
Oculus Quest 2.
In the
new trailer, we see a lot of shooting in first-person,
and it looks fun. This will undeniably be one of the biggest appeals of playing
the game in VR as the Resi 4’s Wii Edition is beloved for using its Wii Remote
to shoot. New to this version is the ability to shoot two guns at once which was briefly
shown in the trailer.
The VR version supports both full-motion movement and
teleportation travel.
The footage also showed some puzzles being solved in the first
person. Some puzzles and objects have been recreated to be fully interactive in
VR.
This will surely be one for fans of Resident Evil 4 and people looking for a new VR experience.
October 2021 PS Plus and Xbox Live Games with Gold titles have been revealed
Coming to PS Plus in October is Mortal Kombat X, PGA
Tour 2K21 for PS4 and Hell Let Loose for PS5. These were correctly
leaked nearly a week earlier on September 26th.
Mortal Kombat X is already available to PS5 users
through their PS Plus Collection service, which allows PS5 members to enjoy
some classic PS4 titles on their new console.
Xbox Live subscribers will be able to download and enjoy Aaero
throughout October, as well as Hover from October 16th to
November 15th. The Xbox 360 titles for this month is Castlevania:
Harmony of Despair which is downloadable between October 1st to
the 15th and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X which is
downloadable from October 16th to the end of the month.
My picks for this month on PlayStation would be Hell Let
Loose. A tactical first-person shooter game that passed me by when it
launched, I am looking forward to giving it a go. On Xbox, Resident Evil
Code: Veronica X looks excellent when played on a Series X with all of the options to boost performance and visual enhancements.
